Sriom Govardhan Goshala
Our Ashram, like many, opens each morning with a cow (Lakshmi) brought to the temple before the sanctum doors are opened. The cows at the Ashram’s Goshala are well fed, allowed to graze, cared for, and never sold even when they stop producing milk.
They provide milk for their calves as well as for daily Abhishekam at the temple. They are provided with medical care as needed and live in a clean, sheltered space on the temple grounds.
A Tradition of Compassion
All Hindu rulers of erstwhile Princely states across India worshipped and protected cows, running Goshalas as a state duty. In later years, trusts, societies, and NGOs continued this noble mission, establishing sanctuaries throughout the country.
Care with Dignity
Our Goshala takes care of cows with genuine passion. Our mission is to ensure they live with dignity and grace, especially during the last stages of their lives.
- Nutritious Diet: Adequate fodder and clean drinking water.
- Freedom: Provision for free movement in gated pastures.
- Hygiene: Regular bathing, cleaning, and disinfection of pens.
- Medical Care: Regular health check-ups by veterinary professionals.
- Emotional Bond: A team of passionate caregivers who talk to, pat, and care for the cows like family.
What Impact Do Goshalas Create?
Goshalas play a crucial role in preventing cruelty against cows, especially in their old age. They ensure a graceful and peaceful life for these gentle beings.
Furthermore, they support sustainable living by providing raw materials like urine and dung, which are extensively used in:
- Alternative Medicine (Ayurveda)
- Organic Agriculture
- Natural Cosmetics
- Eco-friendly Fuel
